The Dazey Daisy

This is for the modern flower child. The one who believes in peace, love, music... and all things that perpetuate the 60s ideology. The nostalgia for the past is there, but there is a modern appreciation for building on our forefathers' original ideas. Yes, we all wish we could have been at Woodstock; to experience Jerry and Jimi live, while dressed in fringe and rags, shoe-less, with the waft of skunk in the air... but let's be real: We have about 10,000 festivals new and old, across the world, being created every day. Music's diversity and innovation mixed with rave culture has hit the highest note yet, and the only thing you'll see dropping is some heavy beats. Join us neo-hippies of the millennium because we're here to stay. We have a garden of knowledge, but if you're looking for something specific check out our seed varieties below:

Questions?

Speak Up...

I was listening to the Grateful Dead Spotify radio station and this song came on.  After much (10 minutes, that’s a lifetime on the internet!!) research I can barely figure out who this guy is.  DJ Cleon seems to have a nice array of tunes on Spotify… maybe someone can tell ME more??

I particularly liked this song, Green Season, as it sounds like a hip-hop, jazzy, instrumental-only mix of A Day In The Life.

We’ve been witnessing countless artists turning old music into dance music, now A&B are going the other way, turning dance music into traditional music played on instruments instead of a computer.

The above is Above & Beyond playing an acoustic hot air balloon ride with Pete Tong back in 2009.

I’m excited to hear this album!!!

I’ve been a fan of RAC for as long as they’ve been around.  I remember going to a show back in July of 2011 at the Brooklyn Bowl, and the floor was so empty, the picnic tables were out!  I saw RAC again at the Brooklyn Bowl a brief 6 months later in January and you couldn’t move the show was sold out to max capacity.  RAC has BLOWN UP and here’s why… it’s all in the name: Remix Artist Collective, enjoy some new ones:

Very excited to see RAC again (too many times to count at this point) at Webster Hall with Viceroy and Solidisco on June 14th 2013.
Lastly, RAC posted to Facebook yesterday in reference to the Webster show, “It’ll be our last NYC show for a while as we prepare our live band, so come see us!”  —- a LIVE BAND!? YES!!!!!!

As part of my Coachella Non-Headliners to check out post, Jake Bugg was planned be #11, of 46 (that was clearly too ambitious - and so you and the artists benefited if an artist’s name was at the beginning of the alphabet).  The draft write-up went like so:

Jake Bugg is a 19-year-old indie/folk rock singer-songwriter from England.  Bugg had his first break in 2011 and is still relatively new to the music scene.  He brings back the sounds of the 1960s and 1970s rockers and I love it!!

Well after seeing Jake at Coachella (one of the few I planned to see and actually did!) he did not disappoint.
Check him out now, because this little guy is about to blow up!

First Listen: Music From Baz Luhrmann's Film 'The Great Gatsby' : NPR →

Baz does it again… take a first listen to the soundtrack for “The Great Gatsby” coming out in theaters May 10th.  If anyone knows how to make something historically epic, still epic, but relatable to the “now,” it’s Baz.
The soundtrack to The Great Gatsby, Baz Luhrmann’s latest high-end refurbishing of a lived-in classic, doesn’t try to re-imagine Jazz Age tunes in a modern context. Instead, it attempts to transplant the sensibility of the 1920s to the hip-hop era, with genre-busting collaborations overseen by Jay-Z.

My personal favorite from the track: Crazy in Love by Emeli Sande and The Bryan Ferry Orchestra

Anything Baz Luhrmann does I love… from his remake of Romeo and Juliet (Best move I was ever forced to watch in class) to the quintessential life lyrics in “everybody’s free to wear sunscreen” taken from a famous essay written in 1997 by Mary Schmich.

Sonic Bloom Festival in Colorado is yet another festival I’m dying to go to. With a jam-packed lineup including Desert Dwellers, the Werks, Robotic Pirate Monkey, and so on, in addition to white water rafting trips, yoga classes, bumping bass ‘til dawn, and painting by Alex and Allyson Grey, I think I’m gonna have to factor this into my vacation time. I’m also very intrigued by this Fungineers puppet dj set. Let’s go!
